Recreation at Bukit Beruang Hill

The morning of Wednesday, May 6th, was painted in the brilliant gold of a clear, sunny sky—a perfect invitation for an adventure. At 7:30 AM, the air was still crisp as we gathered to meet our guide, Eng Kim, a man whose discipline is as steady as the mountain itself. For him, Bukit Beruang Hill is a daily ritual, a 30-minute sprint to the summit that he performs without fail. For us, however, this was the day we would finally test our mettle against the peak.

The climb began with a burst of energy, but the hill quickly revealed its true character. The trails were a rugged mosaic of uneven earth, demanding focus with every step. At several points, the path turned sharply upward, presenting steep inclines that challenged our breath and our resolve. It was undeniably tough, a physical dialogue between the mountain and our determination.

While Eng Kim moved with the practiced ease of someone at home on the slopes, we took our time, soaking in the lush surroundings and navigating the vertical sections with care. After a steady push, we finally reached the summit. The sense of achievement at the top, bathed in that bright morning light, made every difficult step worthwhile.

The entire journey—from the first upward stride to the final descent back to the trailhead—took us about an hour and a half. By the time we reached level ground, our legs were tired, but our spirits were soaring.

The excursion concluded on a high note with a short walk to Eng Kim’s home, conveniently located just minutes from the main entrance. There, we settled in for a well-earned tea break. As we sipped our drinks and shared stories of the steep climbs and uneven trails, the exhaustion faded, leaving behind only the satisfaction of a wonderful morning and the memory of our very first successful ascent to the peak.
